From the Virtual Desk of Kristen Joy Laidig, a Maker Like YOU!
RE: Do you wish you could make a living from your art?
If you've followed me at all or read my bio, then you know I created my first "business" with a sharpie marker and rocks from my driveway when I was 6 years old.
What you may not realize is that I got my early entrepreneurial "start" doing... craft shows with my mom. Arts and crafts were what I usually turned to when I needed a little extra cash, from elementary school through high school (when I briefly switched to turning my locker into a candy bar vending machine... but that's another story...) and even through college.
To say I love art, art supplies, creating, making... well that would be an understatement. And my husband Tony and I frequent art shows. We LOVE them. We track down our favorite artists and support their booths. And sometimes I just can't keep my mouth shut when I see a struggling maker at one of these shows, so I've been known to give on-the-spot advice... which many of them have told me directly increased their profits.
It used to be the ONLY way to get my tried-and-true "Festival and Show Income Secrets" was if you had a booth at a show... and IF I walked into it.
That's why I decided it's time... It's time for YOU to get the tools necessary to have your own successful art show. And no, I'm not talking about galleries... I'm talking about that little tent you throw up at the Farmer's Market... That tent at the flea market... That downtown festival... That high end juried art fest... That local craft show in your kids' elementary school.
